Croatia 2016: Day 3 – Out to the Islands

In 2016 we are leading 4 high school summer trips. You can read all about our Global Innovators trips or get in touch to ask us any questions about the programs. Our 2016 Croatia trip focuses on sustainable development and small business in the country. During the trip, students take turns writing a daily blog post to describe their project process and exploration, follow along here.

Today, 7/9 we explored the old bell tower in the old city of Split, Croatia. We then caught a ferry to the island of Hvar. There we took a swim in the cool yet rocky Adriatic Sea. We then proceeded to grab a late 3:00 lunch at a very busy yet accommodating Italian place in the square in the old city of Hvar. We were able to experience the beauty of Hvar and all it has to offer. We had a “out of the box” picture scavenger hunt where we took pictures of words on a list but we were able to interpret them as we chose and finally voted on the winners (kinda like apples to apples). Very creative minds were displayed, which really is great for our project! Finally we took a ferry to Korcula. We settled in and explored a bit met our friend and mentor, “American” John who knows the region very well.

A few stand out memories include… Meeting Santa (long story…), our waiter at lunch singing, and Chelas semi cheesy yet funny jokes.

A new idea that occurred today was reviewing the history of Korcula and Hvar to see how the island evolved to see if something like that could take place in Badija The single best moment of the day was our nightly chat where we unveiled our pictures from the game, everyone had a great laugh and a great time!
